Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Level 2 Award in the Principles of Risk Assessment

This course is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety by enabling learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment.

Course Content

  • Main causes of accidents and ill health, and the implications they have for people in the workplace
  • Hazard and risk the main cause of harm to workers
  • Health, safety and welfare provisions in the workplace
  • The importance of following safe systems of work, procedures and rules
  • Hazards and controls in respect to both safety and occupational health risks
  • How their actions can reduce risks to health and safety

Learning Outcomes

  • Ability to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment
  • Understand the legal requirements for risk assessment
  • Understand the principles of risk assessment including:
  • Hazards, risks and control measures
  • The five steps of risk assessment
  • The hierarchy of control
  • Risk assessment review and record keeping

Pre-requisites: Recommended to have completed a CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace or equivalent .

Assessment: 30 question multi-choice exam
